The KiKenTai Dojo is an officially license shibu (branch) of the Aikido and Aikibujutsu Tanren Kenkyukai (Aiki-Buken Federation) under the supervision of Obata Toshishiro Kaiso.

Obata Kaiso was one of the last generations of Uchi-Deshi (live-in student) to have trained under Shioda Gozo Kancho, who developed Yoshinkan Aikido. The combat effective techniques acquired as an elite member of the Yoshinkan professional instructors group have been passed on by Obata Toshishiro Kaiso through his Aiki-Buken system.

Aikibujutsu is based on the principles of modern-day Aikido as well as the older style of “budo” (martial arts) as practiced by the samurai class.

The fundamental principle of Aikido is to blend with an opponents motion (or spirit) while retaining one’s own balance. Techniques such as throws, joint locks, and nerve strikes are used to redirect and control an opponent’s attack.

Aikibujutsu is based on earlier self defense methods of taking the initiative using controlling and arresting techniques, as taught to the Japanese police. The Aiki-buken system combines the two styles, Aikido and Aikibujutsu, to form a comprehensive and highly effective self-defense curriculum.

Aiki-buken incorporates extensive training in body-movement, footwork, kumite with single partner, and multiple-partner free sparring.  In addition to open-hand self defense, the Aiki-buken system also  includes weapons training for Bo (long staff), jo (short staff), and tanto (knife).
